About Me

Hi friend! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, where I provide resources and tutoring to help you on your Latin learning journey.

Mine began seven years ago. I was a freshman in college, thousands of miles from home, and I thought Latin would be an easy language credit. I was majoring in English, so I figured that a few years of Latin would help me build my vocabulary and improve my writing.

I never thought it would turn into a second major, then a side-hustle, then a career.

I'll be honest with you, though... learning Latin was hard. Once I'd satisfied my university's language requirement, I thought about giving it up.

More than once.

I was overwhelmed by the insane number of verb forms, the all-over-the-place, seemingly nonexistent grammatical structure, and the fact that a three word Latin sentence could be like, ten words in English. Not to mention the fact that, despite hours spent in the library memorizing forms, it felt like everyone was better at it than I was.

There was so much to learn and it didn't get better once I got through the grammar and started translating original Latin. In fact, I soon realized that original Latin was even more insane (especially Cicero... I hated Cicero).

And yet, I remained fascinated. I started to see it pop up in everyday life--in movies, at the bookstore, in songs and academic jargon. I saw echoes of Roman history in politics and on the news. I couldn't go anywhere or read anything without thinking about Latin.

So I persisted. I signed up for Latin again and again and again.

When I first started tutoring Latin, it was because it seemed like the logical thing to do. But I fell in love with teaching Latin because it was an opportunity--a chance to help my students not feel like I did when I first started learning the language. In so many of my students, I saw the very same overwhelm and confusion that I had felt. So, I dedicated myself to helping them overcome those feelings and find their own personal connection with Latin.

In the five years since then, I've tutored nearly 1,000 hours, built a clientele of over 75 students and a collection of more than 50 5-star reviews on platforms like Varsity Tutors, Wyzant, Preply, and Fiverr. I've worked with students from elementary to college-level and have helped countless students conquer their overwhelm, master Latin grammar, and feel empowered to keep learning.

In addition to my hands-on tutoring experience, my archive of carefully crafted resources grows larger by the day (and now includes 4 conjugation handouts, 2 case-usage handouts, and over 15 subject-specific worksheets, which I am working to make available in my store!).

After seven years studying Latin, I remain a student of the language. I learn from every passage I translate, every hunt for information about an elusive grammar concept, every question my students ask. But not too long ago, I was right there with you. I remember feeling overwhelmed and confused. I remember drowning in declensions and conjugations and endings. I remember being absolutely positive that I was never going to memorize all those forms. But I did.

And I promise, you will too. I can't wait to help you get there.

With love and latin :D
